Some of my astute (and older) readers know that I have a habit of using cliches from old movie lines. Especially comedies. Several of you correctly guessed that The Post's new requester mailing campaign "Be Somebody" was based on a funny line from one of my old favorites, "The Jerk," starring Steve Martin.

Many people don't associate water and sewer systems with job creation. In fact, most Americans might not think about their water and sewer systems much beyond paying a water bill.

Our nation is in a state of conflict. We have country vs. country; politician vs. politician; state vs. state; neighbor vs. neighbor and poor vs. rich. We need a common goal to unite all of us to live side by side in peace. That goal is to protect and defend our soil, air, woods, water and wildlife from ourselves and the destructive path we are on.

First of all, I am appalled that the state of Ohio doesn't have stronger restrictions on hunting in townships throughout the state. In the article that appeared in The Post on Feb. 4, as I read it, Reinhardt was objecting to hunting in a neighborhood - not objecting to hunting itself as a letter-writer wrote in his letter to the editor titled "Personal opinions should not dictate hunting laws" in the Feb. 11 edition of The Post.

I am writing to recommend Kent Patterson for sheriff of Medina County. Kent brings extensive law enforcement management experience, a superior work ethic, strong values and the overall leadership skill that will allow him to excel in this position.

Kent Patterson would make a very good Sheriff for Medina County. He has served our county for many years in law enforcement and in many ways. While serving in the Ohio Air National Guard in 1972 he joined the Ohio State Highway Patrol and retired as the Medina Post Commander in 1997. Kent has served his community very fairly as a patrolman and later as Chief of Police for Westfield Center. He has been our chief for 13 years. Kent also serves as the school commander of law enforcement programs at the Medina County Career Center. He also has been elected to his second term at the Medina County Educational Service Center (what used to be the county school board). I know that he has served for years on the Medina County Drug Abuse Commission.

The Chippewa Local Schools has a renewal of a 1 percent earned income tax on the ballot for March 6. It is critical that we pass this renewal issue. As you know, all businesses need money to fund operations, and school districts are no exception. We need every penny of the $1.6 million that this issue will generate. The board of education has not asked for any new money and they pledge to live within their budget. Keep our school system excellent! Vote yes on March 6.

While a huge burden may have been lifted from some of our previous council members' shoulders, I have accepted the responsibility of telling the residents the truth about the "roads" levy. I have never been a fan of having a lack of communication. Early voting has started already and as I read through the local papers, I haven't noticed any articles about the levy recently. I'm going to try this approach although I'm not going to be very popular for it, but sometimes that is the price you pay for telling the truth.

The Feb. 11 issue of The Northern Wayne Post contained a letter, "Divorce and broken homes are demise of society." The author's obviously heart-felt letter indicating that divorce and remarriage is the major cause of the problems in our country today and citing chapter and verse from the Bible to make his point, moved me to respond.

A few years ago every county, city, township and zoning board could deny drilling in their area of control. As a result most landowners could not lease for drilling on their property. The Ohio legislation did not see this as a good thing for Ohio and the nation. Complete control of drilling activity was given to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

"The school board says that if you don't vote for the school levy your property value will decrease." Let me tell you that this is a big fat lie. I voted for every school levy when I moved to Strongsville in 1972. The value of my home has decreased $30,000 as of 2012.

I don't begrudge our government spending big money on things some people might think of as frivolous. I think that every president and his immediate family are entitled to Secret Service protection for the remainder of that president's life (it was changed from lifetime protection to 10 years after leaving office under President Clinton).

How does your candidate view the Constitution? Find out from Abigail Adams.
The Abigail Adams Project has submitted a non-partisan Constitution-based questionnaire to all candidates in contested races in the March 6 primary.
