To the Editor:
The Feb. 11 issue of The Northern Wayne Post contained a letter, "Divorce and broken homes are demise of society." The author's obviously heart-felt letter indicating that divorce and remarriage is the major cause of the problems in our country today and citing chapter and verse from the Bible to make his point, moved me to respond.
Divorce is surely never the intent of any bride and groom entering into marriage, in spite of what the tabloids might indicate. People usually marry for the right reasons (I refuse to judge the recent Kardashian debacle), and expect and want to love and be loved in return for the rest of their lives.
However, life is not simple and people do not always stay the same as they were when they were young and in love. God, I believe, does not expect that a woman will stay married to a man who becomes addicted to alcohol and/or drugs and/or becomes abusive. Do you think God expects a woman to stay married to a man who beats her and/or their children? Do you think God expects a man to stay married to a woman who is an abuser of alcohol and/or drugs and their children?
Do you really believe that the Father God that Jesus Christ acquainted us with resents and punishes men and women who seek to create a loving, nurturing family life for themselves after ending an injurious and miserable relationship? Sir, I am happy to place my faith in the Father God of Christ, and not in the judgment and interpretation of His word by you. Judgment is mine, sayeth the Lord.
