Improving her seeding in both events, Buckeye swimmer Sarah Turner capped her outstanding freshman campaign Feb. 18 during the Northeast Division II District at Cleveland State University.
Turner, the lone aquanaut to represent the school this season, placed 11th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.38 and 16th for the 50 freestyle in 25.83. Based on the times she recorded at sectionals a week prior, she headed into Robert F. Busbey Natatorium ranked 13th and 23rd, respectively.
The top two placers for each swimming event earned automatic bids to C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, while at-large bids were given to the next 16 girls times across Ohio.
Wrestling
With a fourth-place showing at the Medina Sectional on Feb. 17 and 18, Buckeye advanced six wrestlers to the Marion Harding Division II District tourney.
The Bucks got a sectional championship from senior 220-pounder Tyler Carrow and runner-up finishes from junior Stefon Inman (120) and seniors Jake Thayer (170) and Alex Sherman (160).
Also moving on to districts, which will be held Feb. 24 and 25, were senior David Stepp (113) and junior Anthony Kisiday (138). Both finished third.
The Bucks totaled 135 team points to finish behind champion Edison (249) in the team competition.
