Wayne County is one of the most agricultural areas in the state so it is natural that there are a number of hobby farmers to complement the many larger farms in the area. In my little area of the county three neighbors are vegetable and flower gardeners, one raises alpacas and I tend a flock of chickens. One farmer raises the wonderful tasting beef cattle which fills my freezer and another is the local strawberry mecca. The local libraries have many books for these passions.

The Hazel Harvey Elementary School has had a mentoring program for the last twelve years to help students improve their reading. It is called MOST, which stands for Mentoring Our Students Together. It started as a grant-funded program, but the grant has long since run out. Now, the school board funds it locally.
