The Black River FFA Chapter held its annual Parent/Member Banquet on May 18.
Over 250 guests were in attendance at the annual celebration where members were recognized for their achievements, participation and hard work throughout the year.
The evening began with a catered dinner and the cake and silent auctions. Twenty-one members made agriculturally-themed cakes, pies and cupcakes to auction off. Thank you to auctioneer, Mr. Chuck Stiver, for donating his services to help the chapter raise funds to attend national and state conventions and participate in career development events.
The evening’s program began with the introduction of the 2018-2019 chapter officers. Several groups of students and community members were recognized throughout the evening, in addition to the chapter awards. The chapter was recognized for receiving a Gold Rating in the National Chapter Award Application process. Their application will now advance to the National FFA Convention for review and the opportunity to earn additional awards.
Guests and former students were entertained by guest speaker, 2018-2019 Ohio FFA Vice President at Large, Tyler Zimpfer. Tyler talked about the importance of “showing up” and being there for someone, as well as teaching and stressing the importance of preserving and appreciating agriculture in our daily lives.
Mr. Phil Fechuch and Mrs. Jenny Demczyk were presented with the Honorary Chapter Degree for their continued dedication, support and service to the Chapter. In addition, Mr. Chris Clark, Mr. Jermey Bradford, Mrs. Jessica Mrakuzic and Mrs. Corrine Miller were honored with Appreciation Awards for their helping to coach CDE teams and providing additional support and service.
The following students received special star honors: Star Discovery – Cassandra Stroud; Star Greenhand – Chloee Howard; Star Chapter Farmer – Molly Cordonnier; Star Junior – Cori Aviles; DeKalb Award/Star Senior – Collin Burnett.
The 110 percent award recipients were presented to 8th grader – Breann Czarny; Freshman – Chloee Howard; Sophomore – Molly Cordonnier; Junior – Cori Aviles; and Senior – Madeline Sommerville. Additionally, Chloee was awarded the Overall 100 percent award sponsored by Ag Credit in Wellington.
The evening concluded with the announcement of the 2018-2019 Chapter Officer Team. Congratulations to this year’s new officers – President – Cori Aviles; Vice President – Anna Shearer; Treasurer – Molly Cordonnier; Secretary – Chloee Howard; Reporter – Katlyn Kubitz; Student Advisor – Madison Bias; Sentinel – Cassidy Mrakuzic, and Historian – Myrissa Norton.
