Is the new money for the IRS a good thing or bad thing?

"Democrats' $80 billion wager: A bigger IRS will be a better IRS." Our US and Opinion feature is about the increased funding for the IRS. Modernizing the national tax collector is a key to the party's climate change and health care bill, but the agency has many problems after years of underfunding.

"Why does the IRS need $80 billion?" Catherine Rampell leads off a point-counterpoint arguing that you can "Blame the pandemic, sure, but also the agency's embarrassingly outdated, paper-based system, which leaves stacks and stacks of returns cluttering shelves, hallways and even the cafeteria" is the real cause of dysfunction at the IRS."
