Let’s keep our proven leader: Commissioner Pat Geissman

To the Editor:

Taxes, taxes, taxes. There is an old saying that says, “The only sure things in life are death and taxes.” There is strong evidence to indicate this is true. Our Constitution gives the right to pay and collect taxes. In Medina, the death rate is 100 percent.

As I see it, our commissioners and other leaders should avoid regressive taxation for at least two reasons. First, it is entirely wrong to enact a tax that causes the people least able to pay to actually pay the highest percentage of their income to the tax. Second, it opens the door to political competition.

Taxes of any kind can likely be held down by our selection of county commissioners. Commissioner Geissman has been successful in keeping taxes as low as possible, but alas, her opponent seems to find ways to make tax increases needed. Let’s keep our proven leader.
